Support: Training and Consultancy

Training & Consultancy

Acunu offers expert training delivered by engineers who work on Apache Cassandra, in addition to working on Acunu Analytics. We have knowledge throughout the storage stack, not just limited to Cassandra, and regularly update all our training material so you can learn about latest features such as Cassandra Query Language (CQL,) distributed counters and more. Acunu offers on-site, hands-on training and live demos, rapidly accelerating learning.

Our consultants offer expert tips which will increase your performance and build better data models. We will ensure your Acunu Analytics on Apache Cassandra deployment is completely optimized.

Acunu Training Sessions

We offer training sessions onsite or offsite, fully customized to your needs and experience.
Training classes are normally followed up, two weeks later, with a review of progress to answer outstanding questions and provide guidance for next steps.

Day 1: Hands-on Training
  • Cassandra and its components: Overview of concepts and software installation.
  • Application design: data modelling, APIs, de-normalisation, examples, use cases. How to build a data model for efficiency. Discuss in detail all the read and write operations in Cassandra. Work though a simple messaging application built using Cassandra and a basic python client.
  • Distribution: consistent hashing, replication, consistency levels. Understand in detail how Cassandra does its distribution and how to configure it. Trade-offs are discussed, with all the different choices affecting consistency, availability and partition-tolerance.
  • There are hands-on exercises to demonstrate what happens when nodes go up and down and how Cassandra recovers from this.
  • Internals: Data structures. This section explains how data is stored internally in Cassandra. This is useful to understand the performance characteristics of Cassandra and helps to any issues.
  • Performance tuning and monitoring: garbage collection, compaction, JMX metrics. A description of the best practice monitoring tools available and how to tune Cassandra for optimal performance.
  • Operations and troubleshooting: Hardware or cloud based considerations. failure recovery mechanisms, bootstrapping and decommissioning nodes. A set of methods for various operations: adding and removing nodes, recovering from node failure, repairing your cluster, backup and restore.
Day 2: Workshop
  • Review of your project requirements
  • Data modelling exercise, reviewing and tuning some of your application data model
  • Capacity planning and sizing workshop
  • Open Q&A
  • Development of an action plan to ensure successful project
